I'm going to another café. Thinking about something important at this moment in my life. It could be about my job, my family, whether to attend a social event the next weekend, or something more generic like happiness or love. Little cafés have been a getaway for me since I remember. I like sitting next to a large window or in the back of the place, to see people passing by, minding their own business, thinking their own thoughts. Sometimes I think up a life story for the woman sitting at the next table or the man ordering a cup of coffee to go, rushing somewhere. It's like when looking up the sky, seeing a plane full of people and thinking where they might go and how strange it is that there are all these people who have their own lives and who are as alive as I am on the ground, looking up.
I'm writing these words from Must Puudel, a café in Tallinn, my home town, however these pictures are taken next to a small coffee place in Canterbury, called The Naughty Egg. When I used to live in Tartu, my favorite cafés were Werner and later Säde, and in Tallinn, my special places include Must Puudel, Boheem and Katharinenthal, with the latest discovery being a gorgeous gem - Gelato Ladies. I like to hear spoons clinking to the cups, when stirring sugar into the coffee, I like the buzzing voices and laughter that fills up a small place, I like days when the waitress is in an extra good mood for an unknown reason to me.
Even if you are alone in a place like this, it never feels lonely and I think that this is partly the reason that people like to sit there with either a book, a laptop, or simply with a good cup of coffee to accompany them.
I'm going to order another glass of rosé now and I hope that the person reading this is having a wonderful day!
